When it comes to MMA, there are specific areas of combat. The fighters start out standing and trading punches and kicks, much like a kick boxing match. From that point, if there isn’t a knockout, they will usually do one of two things – they will either get into a standing grapple called a clinch or one MMA fighter will take the other fighter to the ground.
The clinch is based on Muay Thai fighting, and taking an opponent down to the ground usually results in wrestling moves or other moves based on Judo and Jiu Jitsu. All of these work well to submit an MMA opponent. Mostly, it just depends on the two fighters and what their individual styles are like.
